This is one of the first works painted outdoors by the Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla. He received the golden medal at the Berlin Fine Arts Exhibition in 1896. Sorolla painted the fishermen in the strong light of summer. He started using the dazzling whites which would later make him famous. He also focused on the transparencies of the water, the sails and the baskets.
