In 1869, Renoir and Monet often went to La Grenouillere - a restaurant on the banks of the river Seine where people enjoyed early water leisure times. Using the recent invention of oil paint in tubes, the two artists worked en plein air on the same subject - the restaurant and the happy crowd. It was the beginning of Impressionism.
