The style of this Post-Impressionist and Fauve, friend of MatisseÂ’s, is very idiosyncratic: a low-angle framing, flat use of soft colours and quick variations of vivid colours. He enjoyed painting water, often stayed by the sea and Iived near the Seine in Paris and in Frette sur Seine. He even became official painter of the Marine in 1945.
