This XIX-century watercolor is attributed to James M. Sommerville and Christian Schussele. James M. Sommerville was a doctor, amateur naturalist and artist. Christian Schusse was a painter and professor of drawing and painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Pennsylvania. This is one of the first illustrations of American submarine landscape. It is stored at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
