Gustave Caillebotte, born in 1848 and deceased in 1894, was a key figure of the Impressionist movement, as an artist but also a patron. Similar to his friend Monet, he was an ardent gardener who took inspiration from his plants for his works. In this canvas entitled Dahlias, Petit Gennevilliers' garden, it is the artist's own house in the Parisian outskirts that we see in the background.
