Maximilien Luce was a XIX-century Neo-Impressionist painter. He painted more than a dozen versions of the west façade of Notre-Dame in Paris. This painting is one of the largest in the series, offering an imposing view in vertical format. The painter used his divisionist technique to capture the details of the architecture and the city's evening light. The cut highlights the splendor of the cathedral but also the modern life unfolding around it.
