Claude Monet lived in Vétheuil, a village on the banks of the Seine to the north-east of Paris, for three years. Following a particularly harsh winter, he completed this work in 1881. It is a view from Ile de Saint Martin la Garenne, situated on the Seine river. The highlight follows the movement of the grass in the wind. The work can be admired at the Fine Arts Museum of Philadelphia.
