Gustave Caillebotte completed almost 80 paintings in the family house in Yerres, near Paris. This work shows two of his great interests: the representation of men at work and a passion for gardens. Caillebotte was often in touch with Claude Monet, discussing Impressionist painting and plants. The men are elegant and barefoot. They might have been the painterÂ’s brothers rather than five professional gardeners.
