This Japanese print is part of the series A hundred famous views of Edo by Utagawa Hiroshige, completed between 1856 and 1858. It immortalises the plumb trees at Kamata, a neighbourhood of Tokyo (Edo) known for its orchards. It belongs to ukiyo-e, 'paintings of the floating world', an artistic current focusing on popular subjects in Japan.
