Paul Klee was one of the key artists of the XX century. Born in Germany, he became a naturalised Swiss citizen shortly before his death. In this work, Klee paints the face of a man - ‘senecio’ means ‘old man’ in Latin - in such a geometrical way it looks like a mask. The face is divided in rectangles, like patchwork. The triangle and the curved line above the eyes give us the impression the man is raising an eyebrow.
